The Seal depicts the Sacramental Elements imposed upon the Book of Common Prayer and the Latin initials of the college; Collegium Archipresbyteri in Traditione Orationis Communi. The identity of the members of the College is those priests who have served long and faithfully in the Common Prayer Tradition, administering the Sacraments accordingly and have distinguished themselves academically.
The Father of the Book of Common Prayer; His arms are included on the certificate as an homage to the 500 year history of Sacramental ministry in this particular tradition.
Patroness of Scholars, martyred about A.D. 304, St Catherine's symbolism is included on the certificates to reflect the College's honor of and dedication to the advancement in learning among the clergy.
The Scarf or Tippet which is worn over the shoulders in Choir Dress is a development of the early academic garb, The College grants the wear of a tippet in a color in the maroon/burgundy range, the most common color in which we find the Prayer Book itself bound. Just for a quirky twist, some of the archpriests refer to this garment as the pleated "epitrachelion;" a word used the Greek tradition for "that which goes around the neck." Sounds rather fancy, does it not?
